Let me ask you an old-age question:
Why do you want to go into a business?
Well, if you can’t answer that yet, why don’t we ask several follow-up questions, then?
What is your reason for going to work each day?
What’s the reason for wanting to earn more than enough money?
You can’t find an answer yet? Or maybe you haven’t really thought about that before. To give you several reasons to help you fuel your life, here are some of the most popular reasons to be financially free:
1. You don’t want your children to experience hardships the way you experienced it earlier in your life.
I find this the most common reason for parents who grew up in poverty. For us Filipinos, we have very deep love for our family to the point where we almost sacrifice our own happiness. We are willing to do whatever it takes, not only to have a comfortable life, but also to provide almost everything our love ones need and want. Here, we aim to be financially free by preparing for common financial emergencies. Classic example of people with this reason are our dear OFWs.
2. You have a burning desire to achieve your passion.
If you belong under this class, lucky you! You love what you do every day and the best part is you are paid to do it. It just so happens that what you want to do fills the need of the society. People pay you to do what you love to do. Isn’t that great? Take for example, the famous Mr. Michael Jordan.
3. You aim for fame – you want to be recognized individually.
Within us, we want to have a name of our own. We want to be recognized for our own effort and not just the effort of the generations ahead of us. This is common for people who grew up with a comfortable life already. Instead of relying on the businesses or wealth of their family, they strive to work hard to have a name of their own. They want to be credited with their success, not because they belong to a particular family, but because they worked hard for it. Sample: Monique Lhuiller.
4. You are not satisfied with status quo
There are people who are very comfortable with status quo and are satisfied with it. But there are also people who are not. They want to get out of their comfort zone and are hardly satisfied on what they have reached already. They want to climb the ladder of success as high as they can. They want to challenge their own selves even though some people think they are already successful. They go to unfamiliar territory because they believe they can do it. Sample: Manny Pacquiao.
5. You want to prove your doubters wrong
This reason is for people who, at some point in their life, experienced doubt from people around them. Maybe someone said to them that they won’t amount to anything or what they are doing right now will fail. From those comments, they get their fuel in continuing what they do and try to improve it to the best they could so that one day, they will walk heads up to the people who doubted them and proudly say, I DID IT. Example: Sylvester Stallone.
6. You want to bless the less fortunate people.
This is the noblest reason in the list on why people want to succeed financially. They want to help, not just their family, but other families as well who badly needs financial support from others. If you don’t belong on the listed reasons above, better belong here since this is the most easy to adapt. The sense of fulfillment people get from helping others is extra ordinary and it helps them push harder into getting more so that they can give more. Example: Bro. Bo Sanchez.
Every financially successful people started with a deep reason on why they want to be successful. They may be conscious about it or not. These reasons gives meaning to why they wake up each day and do the best they can to achieve their goals.
Each and every one of us needs to find our reasons for it to fuel our life. Having a reason to be financially free makes it easier for us to move ahead in our life and be the best we can be.
How about you – what’s your reason?
